Amazon Refund Scam

Target Audience:

Online Shoppers,Elderly,General Public

Description:

Scammers call or email claiming to be from Amazon customer service about a refund for an unauthorized purchase. They gain remote access to the victim’s computer under the pretense of processing the refund, then manipulate banking screens to make it appear they’ve deposited too much money and convince victims to return the difference.

Prevention Tips:

Never give remote access to your computer to someone who contacts you first, contact Amazon directly through their official website if you have concerns about an order, don’t call phone numbers provided in suspicious emails, and remember that legitimate companies never ask for payment via gift cards.

Warning Signs:

Unsolicited calls about Amazon purchases, requests for remote access to your computer, claims of accidental overpayment, and pressure to send money via gift cards or wire transfers.
