Grandparent Scam

Description:

Scammers call elderly individuals pretending to be their grandchild or another relative in urgent trouble (arrested, in hospital, etc.). They request immediate financial assistance and ask for payment methods that are difficult to trace or recover.

Prevention Tips:

Establish a family verification code for emergencies, verify any emergency by calling the family member directly on their known number, never send money based solely on a phone call, and discuss these scams with elderly family members proactively.

Warning Signs:

Calls from “relatives” with voice quality issues, requests for secrecy, urgent demands for money, and specific requests for gift cards, wire transfers, or cryptocurrency.
